How does the DC motor operate? Here, I have supply voltage connected to the brush system and then connect to the motor. If I put the permanent magnet close to the rotor, the rotor turns. And if I place another magnet to the opposite side, the motor returns faster. When we apply voltage to the DC motor, the current flow to the positive terminal of the DC motor to one of the brushes, this brush is making contact with one of the commutator plate connected to one end of the amateur coil. The current flow out of the amateur coil through the other end of the coil, which connected to another commutator plate and making contact with another brush. And this brush is connected to the negative terminal of the DC motor, which completing the loop or completing the circuit.

Now, when the current flow in the amateur coil, it will generate a magnet fuel. If we bring a permanent magnet close to the current carrying amateur coil and the magnet always flow from north to south, consider this one is a north pole and the current is flowing in this direction. Now, by applying Fleming’s left-hand rule, the amateur coil will experience a force upward in this side and at the other side of the amateur coil, it will experience the force downward, which make the motor turn in this direction.
