Portaphase Video Demonstration

Portaphase - Video Transcript

Hi, I’m Hus. In this video we’ll look at a demonstration of one of our products, Portaphase.

Portaphase is a single to 3-phase extra-low voltage power supply. It takes in 230 volts from a standard socket outlet and provides 3-phase extra-low voltage. Let’s talk about some of the problems training organizations face when it comes to 3-phase practicals.

  1. Not all classrooms have 3-phase power. You may have scheduled a class in a room where you don’t have 3-phase, in which case the students would have to be moved to a workshop or another classroom where you have 3-phase. Chances are they might also be booked with other classes. The timetabling and scheduling is a nightmare.
  2. If you decide to install 3-phase in a classroom, that’s a very expensive and time-consuming exercise.
  3. Even if you have 3-phase power in a classroom, you will still have to invest in transformers to step the voltage down to extra-low voltage levels for safety.
  4. Even if you have 3-phase power and transformers installed into a classroom, that’s a fixed setup. So now you’d have to either schedule all your classes in this room, or you would have to replicate this setup in every classroom that you have, which is a very expensive exercise.
  5. 3-phase socket outlet doesn’t look appealing in every room. For example, it won’t look great in a computer room or a boardroom.

Let’s now see how Portaphase solves those problems.

  1. Portaphase is portable, so you can move it into any classroom and use it for your 3-phase pracs, even if you don’t have 3-phase power in that room.
  2. Portaphase is much more cost-effective. And in one pack you get the Portaphase and three distro boxes, so you can set up three stations with one set.
  3. Portaphase is safe because its output is extra-low voltage, so you don’t need additional transformers to step the voltage down.
  4. Its flexible, so you’re not limited to use it in a classroom, but you can use it in a meeting room or a boardroom, or anywhere you have single-phase power. So for example, if you have two students that you want to do assessments with, you don’t have to use up a whole classroom. You can set them up in a meeting room and you can do the assessments there with Portaphase.
  5. It looks aesthetically pleasing, so it looks presentable in any setup.

You can use Portaphase for any practical training that requires 3-phase extra-low voltage power. For example, it pairs perfectly with our AC Pracbox, Motor Faults Pracbox, and Control Circuit Pracbox. Let me connect the Portaphase and show you how it works. I’ll start off with connecting the IEC cable from the Portaphase to the socket outlet. Now I’ll connect the Portaphase to the distro box using the Portaphase cable. I’m going to turn the Portaphase on now, and then we’ll measure the voltage output. I’ll measure the phase voltage, and I’m getting 26.7 volts. And if I measure the line voltage, I’m getting 46.2 volts. I’m now going to connect the output off the distro box to these three lamps of the AC Pracbox in delta. Now that I have these lamps connected in delta, let’s power it up. And what we can do now through the distro box is do single-phasing exercises. For example, if I drop a phase, I can see the effects of it on the lamps.

I hope you enjoyed this video demonstration. If you have any questions or would like to know more about Portaphase and how it could be beneficial to you, please feel free to contact us. Thanks for watching.
